Material Recovery

SDMI Resource Recovery and Material Recovery Processes

Our Material Recovery (less than 500 ppm) Operations dispose of PCB materials by solvent rinsing, or other methods, to meet the level of cleanliness demanded by your country's disposal guidelines. Once clean, the metals are usually sent for smelting and a certificate of destruction is issued. This legally represents the end of life for that PCB item. Manifesting and our process records make a paper trail consuming the permanent end to your PCB liability.

  • Material Recovery is a proven process.
  • Full plant and facility design
  • Full plant and facility construction
  • Hands-on operations
  • Plants from 1 to 40 tons per day
  • Fully meets U.S. EPA standards
  • Custom designs for other standards and unique needs
  • Mobile or stationary

Material Recovery can treat PCB contamination levels up to 3,000 ppm. After this level, it can be more economical to send the materials of off-site disposal.

  • Recycling transformers according to the POPs Rules
  • Metals less than 10 ug/100cm2
  • Or...Less than 50 ppm for solids
  • Records for testing are kept for final report
  • Metals after cleaning are recycled by smelting
  • High level (Askarel) PCB handling
  • Capacitors
  • Transformers over 3,000 ppm.

Each component of a PCB transformer is PCB de-contaminated (cleaned) and verified as clean by gas chromatograph (GC) testing. Wipe samples on the laminations and the carcass of the transformer are verified as less than 10 ug/100 cm2 prior to being sent for smelting.
